Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Livestock Medicine and Surgery

The Department of Medicine and Epidemiology in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California-Davis is recruiting for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Livestock Medicine and Surgery. RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical: The position includes a 70% (Professor of Clinical X series) clinical commitment to the Livestock Medicine and Surgery Service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Individual will be responsible for 1) directing, instructing, and supervising veterinary students and residents; 2) providing medical and surgical service to livestock patients that include organically raised livestock and; 3) advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

QUALIFICATIONS: Veterinarian (DVM or equivalent) with advanced training in livestock medicine and surgery is required; masters or doctoral degree in a basic science discipline is preferred. Board certification or credentials accepted by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, American College of Veterinary Surgeons or equivalent is required. Clinical experience and competence in livestock medicine and surgery is required. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching livestock medicine/surgery is required. Demonstrated interest/aptitude in an area related to evidence-based approaches and strategies or research for application to individual animal medicine in organic animal agriculture, dairy/beef cattle, small ruminants, and pigs; or other research focus areas including antimicrobial stewardship, infectious diseases, food safety, pharmacology, and medical education, is desired. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in California is required before employment begins (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals without a full California license must obtain a University License (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) by the time of appointment.
