Whether you are an experienced clinician or a recent graduate, this is an exciting opportunity to expand our internal medicine caseload and manage intensive care hospital cases.
Westhills Equine Veterinary Services is located 10 minutes west of Stony Plain (Alberta, Canada) or 30 minutes west of Edmonton and is easily accessed off of TransCanada Highway 16 on Range Road 25. You must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle as we are not on a bus route.
We are a leading practice focused on providing exceptional medical care to equine athletes, companion horses, and breeding stock. We pride ourselves on our collaborative team approach to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Our internal medicine department is growing and we are looking for a dedicated professional to contribute to this expansion.
Time Allocation
Your time will be allocated across several key areas, offering a balance and dynamic caseload.
Internal Medicine Consultations and Hospital Case Management (40%)
Diagnose and manage a wide range of internal medicine cases including gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurologic conditions.
Oversee advanced diagnostic procedures (ultrasound, endoscopy, etc) and develop tailored treatment plans for complex cases.
ICU & Critical Care Management (25%) - Oversee the care of patients requiring intensive monitoring and treatment in our hospital’s ICU; playing a key role in the management of critical cases.
Professional Development & Mentorship (10%) - Participate in case discussions, mentorship, and continuing education opportunities to stay updated on the latest advancements in equine internal medicine.
Collaboration & Case Coordinator (10%) - Work closely with our sports medicine, neonatal and reproduction teams to ensure comprehensive patient care. You’ll collaborate on shared cases, contributing your expertise to achieve optimal outcomes.
Client Communication & Education (10%) - Build strong relationships with clients through effective communication, explaining complex medical conditions and treatment plans to foster client confidence and satisfaction.
5% Other – attend monthly staff meetings, other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
REQUIRED: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent veterinary degree) with experience in internal medicine who is licensed to practice in Canada.
ASSET: Board certification or eligibility in Lard Animal Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
A strong interest in growing the internal medicine caseload and improving ICU and critical care management.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (in English), with a commitment to teamwork and client communication.
